The rock paintings Inca- & Pumamachay
The car will drive us in the morning in direction of the Chataquila chapel (3.560m) from where we start our 7km hike to the rock paintings with views over the amazing Crater of Maragua and its colourful surroundings.
After lunch we’ll continue hiking, 5km mostly going down (YES!) through planting fields, tipical houses... The car will pick us up from little community Tumpeka in rain season To cross the river we use a Cable car that is used for the locals for exchange of products, if the cable car is damage the guide chose another way (1h30 hike more) to rich the car and drive us back to Sucre.
The rock shelter of Incamachay and the cave of Pumamachay are decorated with paintings and some engravings.
They are prehispanic (except for some recent graffiti...), but its exact age has not yet been established.
They were probably made by the Sauces and Huruquilla cultures, between 2500 and 1500 years old.
